The ZineKone explores the commercialization of the literary scene by challenging the user to reflect on the value they place on poetry, prose, and other forms of textual art. How much are you willing to pay for a poem? Is the size of a book reflective of its value? We also see a lot of beauty in using an old cigarette vending machine for something essential to life.

Call for Submissions – Deadline April 15, 2025
The ZineKone / Zine Machine is a 1930s cigarette vending machine repurposed to dispense zines. It will be installed from June – September 2025 at the Onoma Summer Exhibition in Fiskars, Finland curated by Anna Ruth. We are accepting submissions for inclusion in the machine on the theme of Utopia (read more about the exhibition here). You may submit either a zine/artist book you will make for the machine or writing to be made into a zine for the machine.
For zine / book artists: Each zine / book must fit inside a standard cigarette pack (max: 5.4cm x 8.4cm x 3cm). Books will be placed into a blank cigarette box (provided). The accepted artists will need to create a minimum of 20 copies of the zine and deliver them ready to go. Up to €50 of printing/photocopying costs can be subsidized based on individual arrangements.
For writers: Poets and other writers are also invited to submit content in any language (but must include a translation to English) to be turned into a zine by E. Mena, co-organizer of the Zine Machine. These are very small books so one or two poems is the approximate limit.
Submit by sending an email to: zinekone@proton.me with either a 100-word proposal for a zine or artist book you will make, or your poems, flash essays, or flash fiction attached as PDFs.
Examples of the project may be seen on Instagram at @zinekone
Deadline: April 15, 2025.
